Sermon Overviews - January 2010

PRBC

January 3: “The Vision of PRBC: God’s Fame in Himself” begins a three part series meant to steer our church family in 2010. Taken from select passages in 1 Peter, we ask, “What is God up to? What should we be up to? What specific goals should we have in 2010?” In this first message we check out 1 Peter 2:9-12 to discover God’s heart for His own fame to be spread through His New Covenant people, the Church.

January 10: “The Vision of PRBC: God’s Fame and Leaders” headlines the message for today as we hope to commission Will Peycke should his ordination council recommend him to full time vocational service to the Lord. Focusing on 1 Peter 5:1-7 we look at the unique heart of a leader and see the primary means God molds a man.

January 17: “The Vision of PRBC: God’s Fame and Community” flows from 1 Peter 4:7-19 where the apostle tells us what is “above all else” as the core way for us to spread the fame of God’s name. In this message we hope to open our hearts to the compelling force of love and shared suffering. Let’s do life together so we can glorify God. Special attention will be given to the small group ministry and how 1 Peter 4:7-19 gives it shape and direction.

January 24: On this day we observe “Sanctity of Human Life Sunday.” We bring the “Baby Bottle Boomerang” drive to a conclusion by praising the Lord for PASS Pregnancy Center. The message is entitled “Jesus’ Four Mothers: Exulting in Forgiveness.” First of all, we’ll define “exult.” Then we’ll examine the “strange” diversity of the only four women listed in Jesus’ genealogical tree. Each unique story is a narrative of God’s grace written on the scrolls of deeply flawed but forgiven people.
